PopStad - a brief introduction
February 3-5 2000, the fifth yearly PopStad event takes place, this year in the city of Malmö, Sweden. PopStad 2000 runs for three days at the venues Amiralen, Kulturbolaget and Folkets Park in the centre of Malmö.

It was public broadcaster P3 (Swedish Broadcasting Corporation/Channel P3) that initiated PopStad five years ago. It´s main aim is to focus yearly on a Swedish city with a young, vivid and inspiring music life.

The first PopStad was Lund and the year was 1996. Umeå followed in 1997, Eskilstuna in 1998 and Sundsvall in 1999.

PopStad 2000 Malmö - Daytime
Daytime, the PopStad 2000 event will include seminars and workshops on music, demo panels with representatives from the music business and P3, and a demo stage for unsigned talent (five acts per day).

PopStad 2000 - Nighttime
In the evenings follows four hours of live radio broadcasts in front of an live audience. The P3 broadcasts include four live acts per night (local and national), pop quizz PopSmart and interviews with musicians and representatives from the local Malmö scene.

The broadcasts from PopStad 2000 will be hosted by P3 presenter Pelle Gustafsson. The pop quizz will be led by Kaj Kindvall and Stefan Wermelin.

Late at night, DJ:s from P3 will appear as well (Marcus Stridsberg , Linda Nordeman and Germund Stenhag).

The Golden Mic
The P3-price Guldmicken (The Golden Mic) will be presented to the best Swedish live act 1999. The nominees are THE WANNADIES, SAHARA HOTNIGHTS, LOK, FACER and THÅSTRÖM. The votes are given by the P3 audience and the winner will be revealed Saturday, February 5 2000.
