The Swedish Academy has awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature to Englist writer Doris Lessing.

Beginning with “The Grass is Singing” in 1950, her best-known books include “The Golden Notebook”, “Briefing for a Descent into Hell”, and a series of science fiction novels exploring such topics as colonialism, nuclear war, and ecological disaster.
