New Immigration Rules Attract Asians
Over 200 applications have been received in the first week of Sweden’s new rules on immigrant workers. The new regulations mean that employers can look for workers outside Sweden directly. The Left and unions worry that this will bring down wages in Sweden, but the law was passed due to Sweden’s lack of workers in certain sectors of the economy. So far many of the applications have been from India and China, especially within the field of IT.
Around 90 applications were from asylum seekers. Under the new rules if they have worked in Sweden for six months they can ask to stay based on their job, rather than their refugee appeal.
The Migration Board expects around 33,000 applications next year.
