Stockholm Water Prize for Sanitation in India
The 2009 Stockholm Water Prize has been awarded to Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak of India.
In making the announcement, the Stockholm International Water Institute describes Dr. Pathak as a sanitation innovator and social reformer.
Since founding the Sulabh Sanitation Movement in 1970, the institute says, Dr. Pathak has worked to change social attitudes towards traditional unsanitary latrine practices in slums and villages.
He’ll receive the 150,000 US dollar prize here at a royal ceremony during World Water Week in August.
