Swedish Builders Threaten Strike
The Swedish Building Workers’ Union is getting ready to call over 3000 of its members out on strike as of April 15, following the breakdown of negotiations with employers’ organisations.
The two sides were negotiating new collective agreements, after the Builders’ Union cancelled the current deal last September, but the talks broke down over working conditions.
The buck has now been passed to Sweden’s official National Mediation Office which will now call both parties to further discussions. If no agreement is reached by the middle of April Sweden’s already recession-hit building sites could also be hit by a builders’ walkout. (kb)
