LO Meeting Called For 3 O’Clock

Union bosses inside Sweden’s Trade Union Confederation (LO) are holding a telephone conference at 3pm on Sunday amid mounting speculation that the LO’s head Wanja Lundby Vedin may be forced in the near future to stand down.

The Social Democrat Leader Mona Sahlin is on record as saying that she believes Lundby Vedin should leave her position on the board of pensions company AMF in the wake of revelations that she and the rest of the board approved large pension payments to the retiring boss of AMF.

The revelations have rocked the confederation and the Social Democrats whose party secretary Ibrahim Baylan on Saturday directly linked a poor showing in a public opinion poll to the AMF/LO scandal.

Wanja Lundby Wedin herself said that she was tricked into approving this payment.
