Future of Union Federation Chief Decided

The fate of the disputed head of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, Wanja Lundby Wedin is decided today, Monday. Lundby Wedin has been heavily criticized since it was discovered that she had among other things authorized a large retirement payment to the former director of the pension company AMF.After a turbulent few weeks the confederation called in its board for an extra meeting today at noon.

The special board meeting of Sweden’s Trade Union Confederation, LO, on the fate of LO’s head Wanja Lundby-Wedin is continuing in Stockholm today. Union top representatives had called for the meeting after Social Democrat leader Mona Sahlin had demanded on Saturday that Lundby-Wedin should resign.

The LO head has been harshly criticized for endorsing massive retirement payments to the former director of the oension company AMF. Because of the controversy Lundby-Wedin has already announced that she will step down as member of the AMF board.  (KH)
