Terrorist Arrests in Britain

Swedish Expert Advises Caution

Raid in Manchester

With increasing concern in Britain that terrorists might be exploiting foreign student visas to get into the country, a leading Swedish expert has advised caution.

British police say that after raids on 10 sites around Liverpool and Manchester Wednesday, 12 people were arrested as suspected terrorists.

Most of them were Pakistanis in Britain on student visas. There have been calls to tighten the visa system.

But Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism analyst at the Swedish National Defence College, says it’s important to strike a balance. He says it might be more divisive and problematic to tighten procedures.
