Swede Goes on Trial for Terrorism in US
After three and a half years in jail, a Swedish citizen is going on trial for terrorist offences in the United States.
The Swede was arrested at Prague airport in 2005, while flying back to his homeland Lebanon. After nearly two years in a Czech prison, he was extradited to the United States and has been jailed in Manhattan.
He is accused of planning an Islamic terrorist training camp in Oregon, as well as plans to murder, kidnap or otherwise injure people in another country.
The Swede says he was been mistreated while in custody, especially during the transfer from the Czech Republic to the United States.
The trial opens Monday and is expected to take about one month. Several of the charges carry life sentences.
