Opposition Wants to Cut Defence Costs

Published onsdag 15 april 2009 kl 13.56

The three opposition parties in parliament have presented a joint defence policy. The Social Democrats, Left, and Green parties have agreed on reducing the defence budget by 249 million dollars, but they have no joint plan yet how to cut costs.

The Left Party wants Sweden’s military to withdraw from any international activities for the time being, while the Greens want to abolish compulsory military service and to reduce the number of jet fighters in the Air Force.

All three parties do agree though that Sweden ought to remain non-aligned. (ah)
