WORLD CONFERENCE ON RACISM

Bildt Warns of “Spectacle" at UN-Conference

Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has warned of a “spectacle” at the United Nations Conference on Racism starting in Geneva on Monday. Speaking to Swedish Radio news, Bildt said, with high politicians as the Iranian President attending one never knows what can happen at the conference.

Bildt found it important though that Sweden participates. Instead of sending a minister, Sweden is represented by an ambassador. Several countries have already pulled out from the conference, such as the United States, Canada, Germany and Israel – claiming it will only lead to anti-Semitism. In the final document of the first conference in 2001 in Durban, Zionism was equated with Apartheid. (ah)
