“Keeping the Krona Saves Billions"

Published måndag 20 april 2009 kl 10.17

The chief economist of the Swedish Trade Council, Mauro Gozzo, has rejected demands for a new referendum on the European single currency – claiming that Swedish trade wins billions by not introducing the Euro. In an interview with Swedish Television (SVT) Gozzo argues that national companies have much lower costs at the moment due to the weak currency rate of the Swedish Krona.

Keeping the Krona can save these companies up to $3.5 billion every year, Gozzo maintained.

Most Swedes are now in favour of their country joining the Euro, an opinion poll published Sunday suggested. 47 percent said they supported Sweden signing up to the single currency, while 45 percent oppose such a move, said the Sifo Institute survey. (ah)
