A Model for Europe?
Sweden’s good relations with Turkey are an argument for Turkish entry into the EU, that’s one message from a visit Sweden’s Prime Minister is paying to Turkey on Tuesday.
He’s meeting the Turkish premier and also visiting a village that was home to many immigrants to Sweden.
According to Swedish Radio news around 38,000 Turks left the village of Kulu in Anatolia and came to Sweden in the 1960s. Now Kulu has streets and restaurants named after Swedish figures while Sweden has benefited from Turkish workers’ contribution.
Now the successful story of this Turkish-Swedish exchange forms part of the Swedish government’s argument for letting Turkey into the EU.
