Reinfeldt Wants Barroso to Carry On
Prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt advocates the re-election of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso in October. At a conference of his ruling conservative party Moderaterna Reinfeldt said in Örebro, a second five-year term would underline continuity in European policy.
It would also be useful for the Swedish EU presidency, beginning in July, Reinfeldt added. The Social Democrats, Sweden’s largest opposition party, are against re-electing Barroso, whose conservative policy they have repeatedly criticized. Yet, so far they have not said whom they might accept instead as new head of the Brussels commission.
