The Baltic Cod is alive and well again, Swedish marine biologists say in a new study.

For several years the cod stock in the Baltic was listed as threatened by extinction. The European Commission’s decision to reduce cod fishing quotas drastically led to sharp protests by fishermen in Sweden and other Baltic nations but appears to have saved the species.

Says Sture Hansson, marine biology professor at Stockholm’s university: ‘Now we can put cod on our plates again without feeling guilty.’
