Swedish Film Censorship to Vanish?

Published tisdag 9 juni 2009 kl 16.18

A Swedish government-appointed study recommends abolishing the censorship laws for all films except those screened for youngsters.

Sweden was the first country in the world to establish film censorship back in 1911, but the Swedish film censors have not banned or cut in films for the adult population since 1995.

Critics have been calling for Sweden to follow the examples of most other countries checking only those films for those under the age of 15.

Earlier films cut explicit sex scenes or what was considered unnecessary violence or murder - resulting in the audience some times not knowing why a character on screen simply disappeared.
