Rise in Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria
New figures from the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control show that antibiotic resistant bacteria are seeing dramatic levels of increase.
The VRE and EBSL bacteria are both transmitted through the intestine
VBL occurs mostly in hospitals. The EBSL bacteria, on the other hand, is often picked up by tourists who visit countries such as Thailand, Egypt or India.
These bacteria, which block antibiotic treatment can be deadly for patients who become seriously ill and need such treatment. They can also be very difficult to remove from a room where a patient has been treated.
