Algal bloom in the Baltic

Sweden and the other nations around the Baltic Sea should co-ordinate their policies for the environment, transportation and trade - according to the European Commission's new Baltic strategy plan.

The plan calls for the European Union to spend some 700 million US dollars for such projects as building more sewage treatment plants especially in the Eastern Baltic, banning phosphates in soap powder to reduce pollution, building a rail line between Warsaw and the Estonian capital of Tallinn in the north and creating a joint surveillance system for shipping.
