Swedish-Grown Cannabis Increases

Published onsdag 15 juli 2009 kl 11.42
Cannabis seized by police in Örebro last year.

According to Swedish police, Swedes now grow enough cannabis to make the country entirely self-sufficient. Police have made nearly 600 seizures of domestically-grown cannabis this year, a four-fold increase over last year. At the same time, smuggling has decreased.

Swedish news agency TT reports that the increase may result from the ability to legally purchase cannabis seeds online, together with detailed information on how to successfully grow the plant. Janne Vestling of Stockholm Police maintains, however, that the houseplants of private persons are not to blame—rather, large-scale cultivation is fueling the increase.
