Reinfeldt Welcomes Iceland EU Application
Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has welcomed Iceland’s decision to apply for membership in the European Union.
The Icelandic parliament the Allting approved the application by the narrow margin of 33 votes in favour and 28 against.
Sweden currently holds the rotating EU presidency. In a statement on the government’s website, Reinfeldt says the Icelandic application will be processed following established EU procedures.
