Cruise Ship Sewage Dumped in the Baltic

Published fredag 17 juli 2009 kl 12.12
Stockholm: one of few Baltic Sea harbours with enough capacity for the wastewater from cruise ships

Only three of the twelve bigger harbours for cruise ships in the Baltic Sea have sufficient capacity to deal with the sewage and waste water from cruise ships.

According to a report from the Swedish WWF, this means many ships dump their waste at sea instead, contributing to the environmental problems in the Baltic, news agency TT reports.

Only Stockholm, Visby and Helsinki pass the test, while Gdynia, Gothenburg, Klaipeda, Kiel, Copenhagen, Riga, Rostock, St Petersburg and Tallinn have low capacity to take care of the waste water.
