"Glass" in Chicken was Plastic

Published onsdag 22 juli 2009 kl 10.59
The glass turned out to be plastic

More than half of the shards of glass found in Swedish chicken turned out to be something else. The technical analysis carried out by the Swedish Forensic Laboratory shows that they were in fact very hard pieces of transparent plastic.

Earlier this spring, the Swedish poultry giant Kronfågel was forced to recall large amounts of their products from supermarkets after what was believed to be shards of glass had been found within the chicken.

Sice then, the police have looked at about eighty reports of “glass” found in frozen chicken and more than 50 %  have turned out to be plastic. However, the technical analysis has not been able to determine how the foreign objects ended up in the chicken.

Kronfågel is reported to have lost almost 4 million US dollar due to the discovery of glass in their products.
