Another Attack in Afghanistan

For the second time in three days members of the Swedish-Finnish peacekeeping force have come under fire in northern Afghanistan.

The latest attack came Saturday night as the Nordic soliders were on patrol around 150 kilometers west of their base in Mazar-i-Sharif. The firefight lasted about an hour, and none of the Swedish or Finnish troops have been reported injured.

There were no Nordic casualties in a similar attack Thursday, when three of the attackers were reportedly killed. Attacks against the Nordic members of the ISAF force have increased in recent weeks, as the August 20 Afghan presidential elections approach.

Two Swedish soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since 2002.
