Swedish Tourists Get Shock in Carpi

Published onsdag 29 juli 2009 kl 12.09
A misspelled GPS entry lay behind the gaffe.

A middle-aged Swedish couple expecting the glittery beaches of the Italian island of Capri got a shock when they learned that they were in fact 650 km off course in the industrial city of Carpi. The couple had misspelled the name in their GPS.

Apparently, they didn't realize their mistake until they asked the tourist center in Carpi where they could find the famed Blue Grotto.

"It's hard to understand how they managed it," Giovanni Medici, a spokesman for the Carpi regional government, told Reuters. "I mean, Capri is an island."
