Billström Accused of Lying

The opposition Left Party has filed a complaint with the Swedish parliament’s Committee on the Constitution against Migration Minister Tobias Billström. The Left Party says Billström lied to parliament about Sweden’s treaty with Iraq on returning rejected asylum seekers.

Sweden has been forcibly sending members of minority religious groups back to Iraq.

Swedish Radio News has followed up many of the deportees, who have once again fled Iraq or have gone underground to avoid persecution.

But in an interview with Swedish Radio News Iraq’s Minister of Displacement and Migration Abdul Samad Sultan said the treaty does not permit forced returns. (gw)
