Swedish Air Passengers Decreasing

Published måndag 7 september 2009 kl 13.49

Swedish aviation authorities have announced a continuing decrease in passengers - a 10% drop last month compared to last year, and a 13% decrease in general so far this year.

The Scandinavian Airlines - owned jointly by Sweden, Norway and Denmark, – was even harder hit last month - with a decline of 17%.

However, Swedish hotel owners report an increase in bookings so far this year – in contrast to many other hotels in Europe and beyond noting a decreasing percentage of reservations in these hard economic times

This is explained by many Swedes staying home instead of travelling aboard, and many Nordic neighbors coming to spend their holidays in Sweden - where the declining value of the Swedish currency has made life relatively cheaper here.

For example, Danish tourists are noting that for the first time, beer is less expensive here in Sweden than back home in the south.
