Psychiatrist Warned After Patient's Suicide
The National Health Care Inspection has reprimanded a psychiatrist for negligence in treating a patient and indirectly causing her death. The authority found that the man had violated procedure rules in the case of a depression-ridden woman who had repeatedly threatened to commit suicide and asked for medical help. After her doctor failed to act she had finally taken her life.
The Health Care Inspection concluded that the psychiatrist had violated the medical code of conduct by recklessly ignoring the serious character of the case. Aside from the reprimand no further steps were taken.
