Blunder in Protecting Police Chief
A domestic accident of Stockholm’s police commissioner, Carin Götblad, has revealed potentially serious deficiencies in the protection of public personalities. When Götblad was injured in a fall in her home she could not reach her telephone, so she pressed the electronic emergency alarm button on her wrist to get help from the Security Police unit attached to her. But nothing happened. Götblad finally crawled out to the street where passers-by called an ambulance that took her to a hospital.
A Security Police spokesman said the incident was regarded as serious. An investigation was launched to determine if the failure had been caused by a technical malfunction or by human error.
