On Thursday European Union leaders meet in Brussels in an extra informal meeting in preparation for next week’s G20 summit in Pittsburgh.

They’re expected to press their G20 partners to back tough measures against banks that hand out excessive bonuses.

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will chair the meeting, on behalf of the Swedish EU Presidency. In a video interview on the presidency’s website he underlined the importance of the bonus issue in getting the G20 leaders to agree to binding rules on financial institutions.
