MP's Absence Due To Lawyer Work

Former Minister of Justice Thomas Bodström has been absent from parliament unusually often—at the same time as he’s been earning money as a lawyer on the side. This has been revealed by television show Cold Facts, which compared his attendance record in parliament with his lawyer bills.

Bodström, who is currently chairman of the Committee on Justice, has previously said that his absences were politically oriented, according to news bureau TT. But of his 19 absences from parliamentary voting sessions, 10 of them occurred while he attending to lawyerly duties.

Yet Social Democrat Sven-Erik Österberg doesn’t think that Bodström has broken any attendance rules. He refers to Bodström’s many contacts in society, adding: “Bodström’s case is a bit special.”

Thomas Bodström himself has not commented on the report.
