Women Blast Swedish Foreign Minister

Published fredag 16 oktober 2009 kl 09.02

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has received sharp criticism from the Swedish organization,”Women to Women,” for ignoring discrimination and violence against women around the world.

The organization maintains that the Swedish minister has failed to follow the example of his American counterpart who realizes how important women are in the question of human rights, peace work and democracy.

It adds that American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton frequently takes up women’s questions in her contacts with foreign leaders, while Bildt has failed to do so and seems to give no prority to this.

The Swedish minister has refrained from commenting.

The prize-winning Swedish organization has been praised for its work with women in conflict areas around the world.
