Accused Withdraws Murder Confession
A teenager who claimed he had killed another youth in a high-profile murder case in a Stockholm suburb has withdrawn his confession in a Stockholm appeals court.
The case has had a lot of media attention in Sweden, following several other cases of youth violence. The 23 year old victim was a well known figure in his local community of Husby in northern Stockholm, and his death led to demonstrations and protests against rising levels of violence among Swedish youth.
Prosecutors claim a gang of 9 other youths knifed the 23 year old and two of his friends, following a disagreement at a party.
The 19 year old was said to be among them, and originally admitted to committing the crime. But no witnesses have come forward, and the murder weapon has not been found. He now claims that he lied in the lower court process, according to Swedish Radio News.
The lower court had previously freed the 19 year old and two others, due to the lack of evidence.
