Confidence in the Swedish Red Cross has taken a hit following a scandal involving a manager who embezzled over 700 000 US dollars from the charity.

According to daily Dagens Nyheter, in a survey carried out by the Red Cross themselves, just 19% of Swedes have a "very positive" attitude towards the charity, compared to 42% in March, before the story broke.

The man, who has now been fired, is suspected of embezzeling the money together with two businessmen. He is also suspected of stealing almost a quarter of a million dollars from his former employer, the Swedish Cancer Society.
