Reinfeldt: Czechs Will Ratify

Published onsdag 21 oktober 2009 kl 17.08
Acting EU leader Fredrik Reinfeldt

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is confident that the Czech Republic will ratify the Lisbon Treaty that is meant to open new dimensions for the European Union. Representing the current EU presidency Reinfeldt said that he finds the latest statements on the issue by Czech president Vaclav Klaus encouraging.

The Czech politician has recently dropped earlier demands to alter essential parts of the Lisbon treaty and has said that he now will accept certain modifications without changing the treaty’s contents. Asked by reporters, Reinfeldt refused to speculate on a time schedule for implementing the reform treaty. Leading European politicians have expressed hopes that the Lisbon Treaty will become operative by the end of the year.
