Plavsic to be Set Free

Convicted war criminal Biljana Plavsic

Former Bosnian-Serb president Biljana Plavsic may be released from Swedish prison shortly. After being sentenced by the war crimes tribunal in the Hague in 2003 Plavsic has served almost two-thirds of her eleven-year term in a Swedish correctional institution.

The 80-year-old has just been transferred from the Hinseberg jail to a prison in Stockholm and her Swedish lawyer expects Plavsic to be formally freed by governmental decree as soon as Thursday.

The Hague tribunal had found Plavsic guilty of authorizing mass killings of Bosnian muslims and Croats during the Balkan war of the Nineties.
