Gender Equality and Welfare
Gender equality and a strong welfare state are the two main issues the Left Party intends to focus on ahead of next year’s general election. On Sunday, the party presented its manifesto in Stockholm, but some decisive issues have been left out so far, due to the ongoing talks with the Social Democrats and the Green Party.
The three current opposition parties in the parliament want to form the next coalition government – a process that will lead to compromises on some important fields such as foreign and tax policy.
Speaking to Swedish Radio news, the party secretary Anki Ahlsten pointed out that the Left Party would try to be clearer about its political aims. Voters needed to know how high unemployment benefits will be and what the law on parental leave will look like under a left government, Ahlsten added.
