The Swedish presidency of the  European Union has called an extraordinary summit in Brussels next  week on filling the new top jobs of president and foreign policy chief.

The two new posts were created under the Lisbon Treaty which comes into effect on December 1.

According to the Swedish presidency’s website, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt decided to convene the extra informal summit after an introductory round of consultations with his fellow heads of state and government. The meeting will be held on November 19th.

Reinfeldt tells the daily “Dagens Nyheter” that he is convinced they have a nominee for each position and will have the necessary majorities.

Piotr Kalczynski , research fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels says there's a lot of pressure for one of the jobs to go to a woman and the way they operate he doesn't expect a vote on the issue.
