Resistant Bacteria Worry Doctors
Swedish medical scientists are worried by the rapid spreading of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Professor Otto Cars, director of a national research program to counteract antibiotic resistance, told daily Dagens Nyheter that more and more patients are suffering from bacteria that are totally resistant against all kinds of antibiotic medication.
As a consequence a number of dangerous infections cannot be fought any longer, Cars said. This in turn might have negative effects on patients’ lifespans. He said that it will take a decade before a new generation of medicines to neutralize resistant bacteria will be available.
