Police Investigates Breach of Quota
The police in the northern region of Dalarna have started an investigation into the wolf cull in which the hunting quota seems to have been breached. At least 10 wolfs were killed during the first official hunt in decades – which was one more than allowed in the Dalarna region.
If a perpetrator is found guilty, he or she might face up to 10 years in prison, a spokesperson of the police in Dalarna told Swedish Radio. Sweden’s first official wolf cull in 45 years had started Saturday with almost all of the 27 animals being shot within a couple of hours. Environmental organizations criticized the way the hunt was organized and expressed fears over the cull taking place even before the wolf population has become considerably large.
