Fungus Destroying Swedish Trees

Published fredag 8 januari 2010 kl 10.53

Swedish forestry experts maintain that fungus which rots the roots of trees is costing the industry millions of dollars a year - and that every fifth pine tree is either dying or deteriorating in wood quality because of this.

Studies show that the main cause is the rotting stumps of trees already cut - even from smaller trees culled to make room for growth.

The experts claim that huge amounts of money can be saved by treating the stumps for fungus or harvesting wood in the winter time.
