Skier Dies After Ice Breaks

Published söndag 17 januari 2010 kl 11.47

Two weekend skiers were badly injured on Saturday and one later died in hospital after going through the ice in the Gothenburg archipelago.

A man and a woman were skiing on the ice over the sea at Amundsön when the ice broke.

TT reports that they were pulled out of the freezing water by the fire and rescue service and taken to Sahlgrenska university hospital. On Sunday police in West Götaland said the man had died. The fire and rescue service warned people to be careful while out on the ice on the archipelago. Temperatures have remained in the low minuses for weeks all over the country but a warm weather front has moved across southern and central parts making conditions risky for those on the ice out at sea.
