Youngsters in Crimes in Sweden

Published onsdag 20 januari 2010 kl 14.29

A 16 year old boy has now been formally charged with rape and attempted rapes of women he encountered by ringing their doorbells - pushing his way in if the women were alone and explaining he had made a mistake if the women had company.

The boy, from Gothenburg, was being kept at a youth detention centre and being given psychiatric care at the time of the incidents, but was allowed out as part of an apprenticeship scheme. Almost half the assaults took place on the same day, according to police.

In another case, police continue to search after two culprits blamed for entering a youth center in Stockholm and shooting three young men there. One 16- years-old, was seriously injured and is described as the main target shooting because of his connections to criminal gangs.

The center was established to encourage youngsters to quit the gangs and turn to more accepted social activities.

The youngsters are reportedly nervous about coming back to play games, and use computers at the center with the culprits still at large.

And two 17-year old youth have been sentenced to long detention in reform schools and paying heavy fines to a colleague of the same age who was stripped naked, tied to a chair, beaten and cut with knives – allegedly because he had spread rumors about the other 2.

A third 17-year old who filmed the whole torture scene was acquitted - to the anger of prosecutor insisting this boy was just as involved as the others.
