Hägglund in China

Published onsdag 20 januari 2010 kl 16.58

One of the top men in Sweden's Ministry for Industry is in China for talks with car manufacturers Geely, the current favourites to buy Volvo Cars from American Ford. Jöran Hägglund, who has also spent much time in Detroit recently, dealing with the possible sale of SAAB Automobiles, says that while Geely is still Ford's preferred bidder, much still needs to be done. Hägglund says Ford and Geely still have some difficult issues to solve.

Speaking to news agency TT, the top civil servant says he was surprised by noises from Ford indicating that the deal was almost struck. Hägglund will go on to meet representatives of the Chinese government Thursday, who would have to approve any deal making Geely Volvo's new owners.
