A man serving in local politics for the conservative Moderate party in the Stockholm area has been charged with child pornography crimes.

Media reports say police found child pornographic material including graphic films and pictures in the suspect's flat.

The man in his fifties also worked as a lay assessor at court. He has admitted to owning films and pictures, but denies any criminal charges.

A spokesperson for the Moderate party in Stockholm tells Dagens Nyheter that they are shocked and disappointed. The man will leave all his political assignments, pending the trial.
