Store Roof Cave In Under Snow
The roof of a white goods store in Vänerborg collapsed on Saturday, under the weight of snow and ice. No one was hurt, as staff and customers managed to get out in time. Some 300 square metres of roof, or about a third of the whole roof, came down.
"At first, two roof trusses gave way, and then after a few minutes came the rest," Per-Anders Zackrisson of the Vänersborg rescue service told the news agency TT. It was the gradual and relatively slow course of events that meant that people could get out in time.
Vänersborg is situated in the southern parts of Sweden, where there has been unusual amounts of snow this winter. And it has been decades since a January was this cold.
