"Every Child Has A Right to Schooling"

Preschool for everyone?

All children have a right to go to school—despite their legal status—a new report commissioned by the government declares. Margareta Åberg, the head investigator, handed over the report to Jan Björklund, Sweden’s Minister of Education, on Tuesday.

Sweden has been criticized by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children for denying children without legal status a spot in kindergartens and other schools. Åberg’s report takes an opposite stance.

“All children, regardless if they find themselves within or outside the asylum process, should have a right to education, nursery school, and childcare,” she wrote in a press release.

According to news bureau TT, there are thought to be several thousand children in Sweden hiding from deportation.
