Roofs Collapse Under Weight of Weather

Published onsdag 3 februari 2010 kl 09.54

Harsh winter weather and heavy snowfall continue in much of Sweden - with numerous reports of highway accidents and cars and trucks skidding off the roads. What's more, buses have been stranded on the highways and trains on the tracks.

The snow has also contributed to the collapse of at least seven roofs throughout the country. A barn roof fell in on some 25 cows in Nyköping, while the roof above a garage filled with schoolbuses collapsed in the city of Frändefors.

And on Tuesday night, the roof of a horseback riding school fell in on a number of children inside. Although everyone escaped with their lives, one horse had to be euthanized as a result.

Flights out of Skavsta Airport near Stockholm were also cancelled because of strong winds, though traffic was up again in the afternoon.
