Rönninge Sports Hall where the roof collapsed on Wednesday

The prospect of more roof collapses because of heavy snow led on Thursday to several council authorities in Sweden to close public sports halls as a safety precaution.

A school sports hall in Falkenberg was closed after reports that the roof had started to sink inwards. Elsewhere, school pupils inside a sports hall in the Umeå area of northern Sweden reported that the roof had sunk 40 centimetres.

On Wednesday evening a roof on a tennis hall at Rönninge did collapse forcing several people to flee.

On Tuesday a roof of a riding school in Uddevalla collapsed during a lesson injuring two children.
