500 Pigs Trapped After Roof Collapse

Published lördag 6 februari 2010 kl 13.40
Efforts are underway to try and rescue 500 trapped pigs

500 small pigs were trapped in their pens after parts of a roof at a pig farm near Brålanda in western Sweden collapsed on Saturday.

A thousand pigs were evacuated. Half of the 1,500 square metre ceiling collapsed. Rescue attempts were hindered by concerns over netering the building with parts of the roof still standing.

A number of roofs have collapsed in Sweden in the past week, particularly in the west, because of the unusual amount of heavy snow.
