Committee Members leave Red Cross

Published lördag 6 februari 2010 kl 16.40

Two members on the committee of the Swedish Red Cross , Dilsa Demirbag-Sten och Jim Dawe, have left their posts.

Chairman of the Red Cross, Bengt Westerberg denied that their decision had anything to do with the fraud charges involving their former communications boss Johan af Donner who's accused of swindling millions of kronor from the organisation and Cander fonden to fund an extravagant lifestyle.

Westberg told Sveriges Radio's Ekot that both members had found work outside the Red Cross that made it difficult to find time to combine both jobs.

Westberg himself has come under fire for drawing a salary of nearly 70 000 kronor a month.

A crisis meeting to try and turn around the negative image of the organisation will be held on Sunday.
